Maria Teresa Adragão graduated in Medicine by Nova Medical School, Medical Sciences Faculty, in Lisbon in 1981 and was Faculty Assistant of Pharmacology in this Faculty from 1987 to 1991. 
She obtained the title of Foreigner Assistant (“Assistant Étranger”) of the “Académie de Paris” after a fellowship of 8 months, granted by NATO, in Renal Transplantation in Necker Hospital (1990), with the presentation of “Glomerulonephritis after Renal Transplantation”. She is a Nephrologist since 1990 and is Nephrologist Consultant in Santa Cruz Hospital, Carnaxide, Portugal, since 2002.
She was a member of the Scientific Board of the Portuguese Society of Nephrology (2003-2006 and after January 2012) and of the Clinical Investigation Board of the “Hospital Center of Occidental Lisbon” (2007-2012). She was a member of the Direction of the Portuguese Transplantation Society (2006-2008) and was Treasurer of the Direction of Portuguese Society of Nephrology (2007-2010 and 2011-2013).
The evaluation of vascular calcifications in dialysis patients and their relationships with cardiovascular risk and bone disease has been her main area of clinical investigation and she presented a doctoral thesis in Medical Sciences Faculty, New University in Lisbon in 2011 under the theme “Vascular calcifications in dialysis patients: the link between bone disease and vascular disease”. Dr. Teresa Adragão has authored or co-authored over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
